A 2CD set proposed by Brian Currin in SA Rock Digest, Issue #68, 30 July 2000 to enhance the Best Of SA Pop series.

By the mid‑1990s, Gallo’s Best of South African Pop compilations had already carved out a place as essential archives of South African music history. They captured the spirit of three decades, from the beat‑group era of the 1960s to the crossover sounds of the 1980s and early 1990s. For many listeners, these CD sets became both nostalgic keepsakes and educational gateways into the country’s diverse pop landscape.

This proposed Volume 4 continues that tradition, expanding the story with a fresh sweep of artists and songs that reflect the richness of South African pop culture. It balances radio favourites with cult classics, English and Afrikaans hits, and the eclectic energy that defined the scene. Together, these tracks form a natural continuation of the series, bridging eras, genres, and moods into one cohesive listening journey.
