What’s New on the South African Rock Encyclopedia

From an 80s prog-rock gem to expanded profiles of various South African legends, the latest updates on the South African Rock Encyclopedia cover the full spectrum. There are updated pages on Ella Mental, Rabbitt, The Invaders, Baxtop, The Blues Broers, Karen Zoid and others – plus a listing for the Further On Up The Road blues concert on 13 September in Stellenbosch.


Here’s What’s New

  • Canamii – Updated the profile on this 1980 prog-rock project by Phillip Nel and Claire Whittaker, spotlighting the lush, underrated album Concept, including providing the correct track names for the misnamed Spotify titles.
  • The Lyzyrd Kyngs – Updated entry on Piet Botha’s long friendship with the Akkedis Band and their two blues/country/folk albums from 2012 and 2014.
  • Rabbitt – Expanded entry, including a playlist and links to the Rabbitt Fan Page
  • The Invaders – Updated playlist showcasing their genre-hopping brilliance in the 60s and 70s. All the members have passed away, but their legacy lives on in the hearts of many.
  • Baxtop – Updated profile, thanks to Tim Parr.
  • The Blues Broers – Updated profile now includes a new biography and an expanded discography.
  • Karen Zoid – More coverage of her 2001 breakthrough and unique English/Afrikaans rock style.
  • Ella Mental – Updated their Singles discography and added a detailed page of Various Artists compilations that feature their tunes.
  • Event – Further On Up The Road – 13 September, The Daisy Jones Bar, Stellenbosch – featuring a gathering of South African blues legends, including All Night Radio and Blues Broers.
