Canamii was a one-off South African progressive rock collaboration spearheaded by EMI studio engineers Phillip Nel and Claire Whittaker, later joined by guitarist Paul Woodley. Their sole album, Concept (1980), showcases lush, keyboard-centric arrangements, soaring female vocals, and fusion-inflected guitar, drawing comparisons to ELP, Curved Air, and Renaissance. Made possible by studio access rather than touring, this ambitious project became a rare gem after its release and remains a hidden classic of South African prog.
