Pop meets Prog meets Soul
I was updating the page for Margaret Singana’s Lady Africa compilation album from 1996, which is different from the 1973 album with the same name, and chanced upon this epic version of the Elton John song.
The Goodbye Yellow Brick Road album, released by Elton John in 1973, opened with this dramatic medley of “Funeral For A Friend” and “Love Lies Bleeding”.
Bandcamp shows this version of the song as being released in August 1979. It was added to their database in August 2020.
No information is listed regarding musicians and production, though I am sure Patric van Blerk was the producer and it sure sounds like Trevor Rabin on guitar and possibly the keyboards.
The song’s cover art is based on the artwork for the South African pressing of the Tribal Fence album from 1977.
