Introduction

Whilst the very successful Springbok Hits series was performed by session musicians, the Pop Shop series released by MFP (Music For Pleasure) featured the original artists. The albums included a mix of local and international songs that were South African radio hits at the time. Originally compiled by Martin Locke.

“Pop Shop” was originally a TV show on SABC in 1976. South Africa only got TV on the 5th January 1976.

The Pop Shop album series continued at a rate of about 3 to 4 a year until number 51 released in 1991. It also spawned a couple of “Pop Shop Spectacular” double albums, a few “Pop Shop Gold” albums and other “Best Of”-type releases.

Springbok Radio chart peak and year are shown for each track, sourced from the SA Singles Charts website.

T.V. and Radio personality MARTIN LOCKE says:

This album is a most exciting concept because it’s MFP bringing you the real thing — 12 original giant hits. This is fantastic value, an absolute must for all record collectors — you’ll still be spinning it in ’87.

I’m knocked out to be in with this product — you’re going to love being part of it.

COOL! NEW! ALIVE!
