Rabbitt was one of my all-time favourite bands of the 70s.
In 1976 I was in Matric at Boksburg High, and living in Benoni. I used to love watching Rabbitt on the very new medium of TV at the time. I also heard them often on the radio, especially “Charlie”. I once heard “Lifeline” being played in a supermarket and I remember thinking at the time that it was a new song by Queen! I also remember hitch-hiking from Benoni to the Boksburg Hypermarket to watch a Saturday afternoon performance by Rabbitt.
It wasn’t cool among some of my friends to be a Rabbitt fan, because of the flamboyant outfits and the Rabbittmania. However I loved the rock sounds of songs like “Savage”, “Lifeline” and “Hard Ride” and I knew that Rabbitt were much more than a bubblegum teenybop pop band. And I was vindicated when Trevor Rabin joined Yes and gave them a US Billboard Hot 100 number one hit with “Owner Of A Lonely Heart” in 1983.
Rabbitt had an entry on the South African Rock Encyclopedia, which I co-founded with Stephen “Sugar” Segerman in 1999, however I decided to expand this entry into its own full-blown tribute website.
Album cover art, playlists, sleeve notes, chart information, videos… this website has it all!
