Kicking off a new series of South African covers, Robin Auld delivers a powerful remake of Falling Mirror’s classic 1985 song, “Johnny Calls The Chemist”, which soared to number 1 on Radio 5 in 1986.
Capturing the spirit of the original, Robin adds his distinctive stamp with his gruff vocals and a standout distorted blues guitar solo.
Stoked to finally share this cover of the Falling Mirror classic. I’ve been playing it live for a while, laid down the riddum with Roger Bashew and Paul Tizzard at Rog’s studio in Barrydale. Honouring the memory of Nielen Marais and Alan Faull, and huge respect to Tully McCully who produced the original hit. Thanks to Oscar Gutierrez for the pic of me in my usual position at the Bell upstairs bar. It’s the first in a series of SA covers, hope you enjoy!

I love the guitar solo on Robin Auld’s version of Johnny Calls the Chemist. Nice and wild! JRat
